Elina Kalampokini – Thursday
As a child, Thursday has always been my favourite day. School was never boring on that day and in the afternoon I always had piano lessons. A few months before having my degree, Thursday became gray. It was just like any other day. This is my last piece as a student during that stressful period.
Elina Kalampokini was born in Trikala in 1993. She graduated in 2016 from the Ionian University. She studied music composition in the fields of electroacoustic music and music in the performing arts. For the past few years her focus is on Acoustic Ecology, music pedagogy and technology in education.
Theodoros Lotis – Portrait d’Une Manifestante
“Portrait d’une manifestante” (8 channels) is a sonic portrait of a woman in red caught in the midst of a protest march. The work was commissioned by Musiques et Recherches and premiered at the Festival Espace du Son 2014. Many thanks to Esther Lamneck, Andreas Mniestris and Giorgos Stavridis for the clarinet, saxophone and percussion samples and to Terry Vakirtzoglou, Giorgos Mizithras and Olga Vassiou for their voices. The piece was finalist at the Metamorphoses 2016 competition in Brussels.
Theodoros Lotis studied the guitar, flute, music analysis, electroacoustic composition and fine arts in Greece, Belgium and the UK. His music has been performed at festivals and conferences in Europe, Australia, America and Asia, and has received a number of awards and distinctions at Bourges (France, 2000), Sculpted Sound Composers Competition (UK, 2000), Metamorphoses (Belgium, 2000, 02, 16), Luigi Russolo (Italy, 2000, 02), CIMESP (Brasil, 2001) and and Jeu de temps / Times Play (UK/Canada, 2002). He was awarded the first prize at the Concours International de Spatialisation pour l’Interprétation des Ouevres Acousmatiques by Musiques et Recherches, in Brussels. He has done commissioned work for Musiques et Recherches (Belgium, 1997, 2000, 2014), Sculpted Sound Composers Competition (UK, 2000), Amici della Musica di Cagliari (Italy, 2001, 2017), the festival Visiones Sonoras (Mexico, 2007) and the clarinetist Esther Lamneck (as invited composer at the New York University in 2012).
Having produced several instrumental works and collaborated with artists from various disciplines (dance, theatre, video) his current endeavours in music are focused on spectrum, timbre and sonic space.
He has completed a Ph.D. in Music at the City University, London, thanks to grants from the British Academy (Arts and Humanities Research Board), and the Foundation A.S. Onassis.
Theodoros Lotis has been teaching electroacoustic composition and analysis at Goldsmiths College, University of London, the Technological and Educational Institute of Crete, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and Universities in Europe and America as invited composer. He is Assistant Professor at the Ionian University, Corfu, Greece, where he teaches Sonic Arts, Electroacoustic Composition, History and Aesthetics of Electroacoustic Music, Music Informatics, Programming for Music and Live Electronics. He is founding member of the Hellenic Electroacoustic Music Composers Association (HELMCA) and the Hellenic Society for Acoustic Ecology. His music has been released by Empreintes Digitales

Nikos Kanelakis – As Above So Below
An attempt to capture two imaginary worlds. The good and the evil. Result of my Diploma on Polyphonic sound.
Nikos Kanelakis was born Thessaloniki in 1995. He works with electroacoustic music and digital media. He currently studies Electroacoustic Music Composition at the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University. He has participated in various music festivals in Corfu, Kefalonia, Rethymno and Athens. In 2016 he became a member of HELMCA (Hellenic Electroacoustic Music Composers Association).
Kaija Saariaho – Vent Nocturne, for viola and electronics
“The idea for Vent nocturne (‘Night Wind’) first occurred to me while I was reading a bilingual edition on the poems of Georg Trakl. This synchronicity of the two languages – German and French – led me to muse on the relationship between the viola and electronics.
The work is in two parts: Sombres mirroirs (‘Dark Mirrors’) and Soupirs de l’obscur (‘Breaths of the Obscure’). These, as their names suggest, focus first on symmetrical thinking and then on the variation of the glissando, not unlike a sigh, that rounds off the phrases.
To me the sound of the viola has always suggested that of breathing, which, along with the wind, became a major element of the electronic part.”

In[trans]parent Heroes are a collaboration that has emerged specifically for this presentation with the aim of creating a sound zone that real-time invests a video by Simona Sarchi. For this musical intervention, sounds from a (perhaps not so much) traditional instrument [baritone saxophone] mined with (perhaps not so much) traditional techniques are modified, reshaped and repositioned in the already formed acoustic landscape that continuously produce digital audio processing devices and (re)production encased in computers.
Simona Sarchi is Italian photographer and graphic designer. The video is an adaptation specifically for this concert of part of a larger work based on the ancient philosophical considerations of the four elements (earth, air, water, fire).

Andreas Mniestris (baritone saxophone) teaches electroacoustic music composition in T.M.S. He is is an electroacoustic music composer, saxophone player and sound engineer born in Piraeus in 1956. He has studied with Horacio Vaggione, David Rosenboom, Larry Polansky, Gordon Mumma, Robert Ashley and Anthony Braxton. He teaches at the Music Department of Ionian University as Professor of Electroacoustic Music Composition where he directs the Music Department’s Electroacoustic Music Research Laboratory.
Dimitris Savva (computer) is a composer of electroacoustic music graduate of the MSc and in this time he completes his doctoral research at the University of Sheffield, England.
Nikos Kanelakis (computer) is a graduate of the MSc specializing in the synthesis of electroacoustic music.
